Description

An unusual combination, 1898 Waltham movement in a 1900 English Sterling silver case with a USA private label dial.

Working and was tested over a 16 hour period & gained approx 30 seconds, it will need a service to keep accurate time. 1898 Waltham, Grade A.W.Co, Model 1883, 18S, 7J, key set, key wind with date serial number 8910959. The English Sterling case is hallmarked Birmingham with date letter  a  for 1900 & is 53.5mm in diameter. Dial has a few faint cracks, glass is detached and needs refitting, sold with key as per photo.

John George Graves trained as a watchmaker but he didn't enter the trade. He was, first & foremost, an entrepeneur and started a mail order business in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. First selling watches from many sources and then expanding his stock base to all sorts of things. One of the most common 'Graves' watches around would, I think, is the 'J G Graves Express English Lever' (marked on the dial) which I believe had movements made by the Lancashire Watch Co.
