This is the perfect tool to allow you to hold the bone whilst carving at the table. In French called, "Manche à gigot" or lamb holder, they were very popular during the Victorian times, to ensure table etiquette was upheld at all times. During the Victorian era many ingenious inventions were created to allow utensils to be used instead of touching the food. The manche à gigot is stamped to the top of the handle with 800 and has another stamp to the opposite side but it is undecipherable. The leg holder section is made in stainless steel as is the decorative screw.
This particular utensil is in great used condition, with just light scratches to the silver handle, the screw mechanism is working fine. It is a fabulous collectors piece or functioning kitchen carving tool to amaze your guests with its age and history.
