Stunning French hallmarked Georgian period antique guided silver ring with beautifully carved chalcedony intaglio centre stone. The ring dates to around 1780 -1800s. The intaglio is bezel set into an open backed octagonal setting and this Neoclassical gem is a real rarity and a timeless classic. The feature stone in translucent cream toned chalcedony is so delightful, the expertly carved Grecian or Roman God like in side profile has long flowing hair held back with a headband or fillet. The ring would have been heavily guilded in a rich gold tone, this is still present to a fairly good degree, considering the age of the ring. The ring shank has the French stamp of a boars head to the outside area. There are no other hallmarks present but the ring tests as sterling silver. The ring has taken on a delightful natural patina over the years which adds to the rings presence and appeal.
This a really gorgeous ring that could be worn by any gender. These rings are rare and hard to find especially in such good condition. Great buy for a collector of Georgian jewellery or gift idea for someone who loves intaglios and antique key pieces of jewellery.
