The movement is signed T F COOPER 6 CALTHORPE STREET GRAYS INN ROAD LONDON 3201 Currently not working, balance staff / wheel are good, will need a repair. Movement 40mm in diameter, dial just slightly less. Some small cracks to the dial, missing 2 hands. Sold without a key.
Thomas Frederic Cooper (b.1789) who worked from 1819 until his death in 1863 when the business was continued by his son Thomas until 1880. He became a well known watch manufacturer, especially for the American market, and specialised in duplex escapements. His obituary in the April 1863 Horological Journal stated "Mr Cooper of Calthorpe Street WC died on the 8th ultimo. He was one of the oldest manufacturers in the trade. He was deservedly in high repute for the excellence of his productions, and his ame stood at the top in America". His address was 6 Calthorpe Street, Gray's Inn Road from 1838 and here he advertised as a Watch Escapement and Chronometer Maker in the Trade Directories.
