Beautifully presented sterling silver, handmade hammered, lobed bowl by Franz Gyllenberg and Alfred Swanson. Gyllenberg served as an apprentice in his native Sweden before moving to Boston and joining Handicraft shop in 1906. Gyllenberg participated in the annual exhibitions organised by the Boston Craft Society in Boston and Chicago, entering small silverwares of his own designs. Alfred Swanson had been Gyllenberg's assistant but in 1926 the two formed a partnership and they successfully sold their silverware until the Great Depression. There is a certain almost modernistic look to this bowl, essentially very Scandinavian in design. The dish is further decorated with lobed sections terminating in a floral shaped base internally. The delicate looking, yet solidly constructed bowl is stamped with Sterling, the stamp for 'The Hanicraft Shop', (H an anvil and S) and FGR, the makers mark stamp for Gyllenberg & Swanson. The overall condition of the bowl is excellent, with light usage and very minor scratches, commensurate with age. It could be used for bon-bons, garnish bowl for the table or just as a beautiful decorative object on display. The choice is yours.
