Antique Australian Sterling Silver Napkin Rings Thomas Stokes in Case 81.3g

Beautifully presented, pair of sterling silver serviette or napkin rings in their original box. The rings were made by Thomas Stokes between 1856 to 1873 as in 1873 Thomas formed a partnership with Martin and became Stokes & Martin. Originally from Birmingham, UK Thomas Stokes was an apprentice diesinker and had originally migrated to Australia in search of gold, during the goldrush. He failed in this enterprise, so returned to silversmithing. These octagonal edged ornately decorated napkin rings are very attractive, with detailed etching all around the base. The rings are engraved with Irene one one and Jim on the other. Inside the rings are stamped with Made in Australia STG. SIL and the makers stamp for Thomas Stokes, a star with S inside and a boomerang. The rings are in great condition with just light usage and a few scratches commensurate with age. The napkin rings come presented in their original presentation case.
