Antique Sterling Silver Wine Strainer Spout Sheffield 1823 Creswick & Co 213g

Beautifully preserved antique tea strainer and spout from 1823, made by Sheffield company Creswick & Co. The company was made up by three brothers, Thomas, James and Nathaniel Creswick. There company was registered in Sheffield from 1819 to 1825. The spout is very Georgian in style with a continuous ornate shell with winged scroll design in high relief all around the outside of the spout. The strainer itself is more practical and is not decorative, more functional. The spout and strainer have a lovely feel to them, as though all the wine that was strained has left a lasting memory. Nearly two hundreds years of straining wine. There is no doubt the set is well used but it still looks good, with just a few bends to the strainer, small dints to the spout and scratches commensurate with age and usage. The bottom of the spout is just slightly misshapen with a slight tear, this is no way distracts from its appeal or functionality. The spout and strainer are both stamped with the same hallmarks, the makers stamp for Creswick & Co TJ & NC denoting Thomas, James & Nathaniel Creswick, the silver standard marks and Sheffield crown with the date letter U for 1823. It is a stunning set and a great item to collect.
