Decorative Antique 1878 Sterling Silver Wedding Cake Knife John Gilbert 85g

Beautifully decorated, early Victorian era sterling silver knife by John Gilbert. The knife has a sterling silver knife section and handle and would be a perfect wedding day cake knife. The knife shape is elegant and is engraved to both sides of the knife blade with delightful swirls and flourishes. The blade is also hallmarked with really crisp marks considering the age of the knife. The hallmarks consist of J.G makers stamp for John Gilbert, Birmingham Ancho stamp, lion rampant quality mark and ladies head purity stamp with the letter D for the year 1878. The knife is in great condition considering it is 144 years old. It would be a lovely addition to any silverware collection or for cutting a very special piece of cake.
