Description

“Manillas" were used extensively as currency in West Africa from the 15th to the 20th century. During the Transatlantic slave trade Manillas were a frequent medium of exchange for slaves.

 
Ex estate with a note tied to it that just said  AFRICAN  It’s quite old and could easily be earlier than 1800s.  The exterior measures 74mm in diameter & weighs approx 238 grams. In great condition with nice patina. No other history is known about the item.
