Antique 14ct Yellow Gold Micro Mosaic Roman Capitol Themed Brooch / Pendant 9.6g

A bold Italian made antique brooch featuring an intricate mosaic of the Roman Capitol to the centre surrounded by a deep blue border. In ancient Roman times Rome was considered to be the centre of the world and certainly the Capitol was revered as being the centre of the eternal city. This stunning micro mosaic is set in a delicate filigree setting with four accent chevrons to each side. The architectural themed brooch is created by the famed Italian micro mosaic technique. A delightful collectable piece made around the early 1900's. It was customary to collect a keepsake of the ancient Roman monuments during the Grand Tour and micro mosaics were a perfect to remember and commemorate the tour.

Despite its age it is still in reasonable condition but has taken a knock and been glued at some point, though the actual mosaic does not seem to have been damaged. Still a great piece and the brooch fitting works well. Quite a rare subject matter, definitely one to collect.
