Description
Antique Chester 1915 9ct Rose Gold T Bar Graduated Fob Chain 51.6g Marker P & M
A superb and substantial antique English 9ct rose gold graduated curb link Albert watch chain, dating to circa 1915.
Beautifully constructed with heavy graduated curb links leading to the traditional T bar fitting. At approximately 51.6 grams, this is an exceptionally substantial example with a wonderful warm antique rose gold colour.
The chain carries numerous individual gold marks throughout the links, while the T bar is clearly stamped 9 .375 together with the maker's mark.
The maker is Phillips & Mayell, noted Birmingham gold chain manufacturers and goldsmiths based in Tenby Street. Contemporary records identify the firm specifically as gold chain manufacturers, and their maker's mark is documented from the early 20th century.
Phillips & Mayell are particularly associated with quality Albert and watch chains. Comparable surviving examples are recorded with their P&M maker's mark, including a 28g Albert chain and a 45.2g double Albert.
The chain is in very good antique condition with expected surface wear and patina consistent with its age, we have cleaned but not polished. The extensive individual link marking is particularly attractive and adds considerably to its period character.
