Antique W&D Rolex Nickle Silver Officers Trench 33.8mm Watch Screw Front & Back

An exceptionally original and increasingly scarce early Rolex military trench wristwatch dating to approximately 1918 to 1922. Featuring an original black enamel dial with bold luminous Arabic numerals, cathedral hands and subsidiary seconds, this watch represents the formative years of Rolex and retains many of the characteristics sought after by collectors of early wristwatches.

The watch is housed in its original nickel screw front and screw back case with fixed wire lugs, an important early waterproof style that predates the famous Rolex Oyster. The inside of the case back is correctly stamped W&D, ROLEX and SWISS, confirming manufacture during the Wilsdorf & Davis era, before Rolex became established as a household name.

The beautifully finished movement is correctly signed ROLEX on the ratchet wheel and SWISS MADE on the crown wheel, further confirming the originality of this remarkable survivor. The movement retains its attractive damaskeened finish and period regulator. working well, amp 305 loosing 20 secs a day.

Examples retaining their original military dial, matching Rolex signed movement and W&D signed case are becoming increasingly difficult to source, making this an appealing opportunity for collectors of early Rolex, military wristwatches and horological history.

Condition

A highly original example showing honest age related wear consistent with over 100 years of careful use. The original dial displays beautifully with expected ageing. The nickel case has not been heavily polished and retains crisp edges and correct proportions. The movement is clean and well preserved.
