Available for purchase is this very large specimen of Sheffield plate. The decorative serving tray has beautiful engraved amorial design to the center, and reeded edges typical of the era. The tray is complimented with large set handles.

Sheffield plate was introduced in 1743 by plating layers of silver and copper. Evidence of the copper bleeding through inside the dish can be seen, helping to authenticate the age of the piece.

True Sheffield plate is becoming harder to find, while simultaneously becoming more of a collectable interest - some even out valuing their solid silver counterparts.
