Incredible 18ct Gold Amethyst Violet Plique-à-jour Enamel Flower Brooch 23g

This stunningly beautiful, 18 carat yellow gold brooch with amethyst flowers, sparkling diamonds and intricate plique-à-jour enamel work is just exceptional. Meticulously handmade as a bouquet of flowers with carved, delicate, amethyst flowers accented with brilliant cut diamonds and naturalistic plaque-à-jour enamelled leaves. The transparency, incredible detail and perfect green hue of the leaves gives such a lifelike quality to the piece. The significance of the violet flower was as a symbol of everlasting love and remembrance. Brooches were often gifted to communicate special meanings between lovers. The love and significance of brooches throughout history has provided a rich and delightful array of treasures for modern day collectors, this gorgeous example is no exception.

The use of high grade amethysts, diamonds and 18 carat gold is testament to the quality of the piece. This treasured brooch has not made it through the years completely unscathed as a couple of violet petals have unfortunately broken off. This is the only flaw in an otherwise perfect piece and the price reflects this small imperfection. Luckily it is to the rear of the brooch and when it is being worn, it is not noticeable. The rear of the brooch is stamped with 750 (18K) Gold, the letter K for the maker and three chevrons in a circle. The jeweller's details remain a mystery, the brooch is most likely European and would date from around the 1950's.
