Museum Quality Documented Career Australia Merchant Navy Capt Alexander McLuckie
An amazing lifetime collection documenting the career of Australian Merchant Naval Captain Alexander McLuckie (1906 - 1982). The collection consists of a Photo Album containing 40 pages of photographs & documented history, Portrait Photograph, Naval Record Book, 54 Official Certificates of Discharge, 3 certificates & Official Royal Australian Naval Reserve Induction form.
The album is a very comprehensive account of his Merchant Naval career commencing in the UK at the age of 16 when he signed on as a Boy on the HAMPSHIRE. Soon after he paid his own passage to Australia where his first posting was on the T S Mataram as a Deck Boy. The last documented date is the 20/9/1948 as the Master of the RIVER DERWENT. After that date there are several pages of photos & handwritten notes on various ships, none of which he served on, but was more than likely a retired Passenger. However there is a seperate certificate, a Pilot Service Certificate, that states he was a Harbour Master & Pilot for 5 ports in South Australia, from the 9/10/1948 to 23/12 1971.
Each ship posting is documented in detail, describing the ships specifications, time spent on the ship etc etc.
Put simply, its a rare opportunity to own an amazing personal collection of Shipping ephemera.
