Rare WWII British Smatchet Fighting Knife

A rare and impressive WWII British smatchet fighting knife, one of the most distinctive close combat knives of the Second World War. The broad leaf shaped blade has a heavy fighting profile with sharpened edge, strong central form and aged wartime patina throughout. It is fitted with a dark wooden grip, steel guard and brass pommel with lanyard hole.

The smatchet was famously associated with British commando and special operations use during WWII, designed as a powerful fighting and utility knife with excellent hand presence. This example has a wonderfully honest appearance with surface oxidation, wear, small edge marks and age related marks consistent with wartime use and storage.

A scarce and highly collectable WWII fighting knife with strong visual impact and genuine period character.

Condition: Good vintage condition with age related patina, oxidation, scratches, marks and wear. Blade shows pitting, tip broken and edge wear as photographed. No sheath.
