Beautifully carved pair of striking storks or cranes inlaid into glossy dark green jade or jadeite, shaped as a long oval. The pendant has a small unknown metal jump ring for chain to go through but any jeweller could change this for a gold finding. The style of the carving simplistic but well executed and the birds are touching in a romantic gesture. The inclusion of water birds in Asian art has long been used to promote longevity. The jade is very tactile and feels really smooth and glossy in the hand. Holding the pendant up to a light source reveals a stunning mossy coloured hue to the jade with small flecks of black iron deposits. Please see in photos, without the light the jade is dark. The age of the pendant is hard to determine but the style suggests's early to mid 20th C.
