Rare Antique J Swift & Son London Binocular Brass Microscope c.1890 Boxed
A superb and highly collectable antique J. Swift & Son, London binocular brass microscope, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880s to 1890s.
This is a substantial professional quality scientific instrument constructed in lacquered brass with a black enamelled cast metal stand and housed in its large fitted mahogany cabinet.
The microscope features the impressive binocular viewing arrangement, substantial coarse and fine focusing controls, rotating triple objective nosepiece, large stage with coordinate finder grid, adjustable substage optical system and plano concave mirror.
Particularly interesting is the collection of period optics and accessories accompanying the instrument. These include objectives from notable manufacturers including Carl Zeiss Jena and W. Watson & Sons, together with additional eyepieces, objective cans and specialist optical and mechanical accessories.
The fitted mahogany cabinet retains numerous shaped compartments and holders specifically designed for the microscope and its accessories. Door dent close completely and lock.

The microscope displays a wonderful untouched appearance with age related patination, surface wear and marks throughout, entirely appropriate for a scientific instrument of this age. The mahogany cabinet likewise shows wear and marks from many decades of use.
The optics and mechanical components have not been professionally serviced or scientifically tested and the complete outfit is therefore offered as a historic collectable instrument. Optics would need a light clean to use.
