René Lalique "Aigrettes" Vase No. 988 Blue Patinated Frosted Glass c1931

An outstanding René Lalique "Aigrettes" vase, Model No. 988, one of Lalique's finest bird-themed Art Deco designs. Created on 7 December 1926 and introduced in 1931, the vase features elegant aigrettes (egrets) in flight amongst dense reeds, executed in deeply moulded relief that beautifully captures movement and texture. The design was discontinued after 1947 and never reissued.

This example is executed in frosted moulded glass with a delicate blue-grey patina, enhancing the remarkable detail of the birds and foliage while creating exceptional depth and contrast. The gently tapered ovoid form and sculptural decoration make this one of René Lalique's most admired naturalistic vase designs.
