Rare 1910 J. C. Vickery Regent st London, Sterling Silver Tobacco Box with AAF Crest and Sliding Mixing Bowl

An exceptional Edwardian sterling silver tobacco box from J. C. Vickery, Regent Street, London, dated 1910. Featuring an ingenious sliding tobacco mixing bowl, this substantial piece weighs 520g and measures 134 × 89 × 59mm high.

The engraved AAF crest adds a very rare historical connection. The Australian Air Force was formed on 31 March 1921 and adopted the Royal Australian Air Force name in August that year, leaving a brief period of approximately four and a half months under the AAF name.

An engraving from that founding period, makes this a very rare and significant piece of early Australian aviation memorabilia. The silver box predates the Air Force, with the crest added subsequently.
