René Lalique Tourterelles Vase No.963 Opalescent Glass c1925 Signed France
The Iconic original René Lalique "Tourterelles" vase, Model No. 963, designed in 1925 during the height of the French Art Deco period. One of Lalique's most celebrated figural vase designs, the piece is crowned by two beautifully sculpted turtle doves (love birds) perched together in an intimate embrace. Their elegant forms emerge naturally from a textured collar of foliage before flowing into the smooth, rounded body of the vase, perfectly illustrating René Lalique's ability to combine nature, sculpture and functional design.
Produced in luminous opalescent glass, the vase displays the characteristic blue-white iridescence that has made Lalique's opalescent works among the most desirable pieces for collectors. Depending on the lighting, the glass glows with warm milky tones and soft blue highlights, accentuating the finely modelled birds and intricate feather details.
Designed in 1925, the Tourterelles vase is regarded as one of René Lalique's iconic creations. The symbolism of the paired doves representing love, peace and devotion, combined with its elegant Art Deco styling, has made this model one of the most sought-after and valuable René Lalique vase designs.
The base is signed R. Lalique France, confirming authenticity. This example presents beautifully with excellent opalescence and crisp moulded detail throughout.
Condition is very good overall. The photographs show no obvious chips or cracks, with only light surface wear and minor age-related marks consistent with an antique glass piece. The opalescent finish remains bright and attractive, and the sculptural birds retain excellent definition.
