Chinese Qing Dynasty Nephrite Jade Carving Mythical Qilin Chi Lin

A finely carved Chinese nephrite jade figure depicting a recumbent mythical Qilin, also known as a Chi Lin.

The creature is presented in a compact resting pose with a curled horn, prominent ears, expressive facial features and finely incised detailing across the body. Carved from variegated olive green and celadon coloured nephrite with natural tonal variations and inclusions throughout.

In Chinese culture, the Qilin is an auspicious mythical creature associated with prosperity, wisdom, longevity and the arrival of good fortune. Its appearance was traditionally believed to herald the birth or arrival of a great ruler or sage.

Attributed to the Qing Dynasty.

Condition: Presents well for its age with expected surface wear, minor scratches and natural variations within the stone. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form part of the condition description.
