René Lalique "Bacchantes" Vase - Dark Topaz Glass, Model No. 997

One of René Lalique's most celebrated and iconic Art Deco masterpieces, the Bacchantes vase (Model No. 997) was designed on 20 October 1927 and first introduced in 1928. Inspired by the Bacchantes-the female followers of Bacchus, the Roman god of wine-the design features a continuous frieze of graceful nude maidens with flowing hair, sculpted in exceptionally high relief around the body of the vase.

This example is executed in the highly desirable topaz satin-finished glass, with the dark green tones beautifully accentuating the sculptural detail and depth of the figures. The contrast between the frosted surfaces and polished highlights creates a striking interplay of light, making this one of Lalique's most sought-after designs.

Condition

Very good vintage condition overall. A few typical manufacturing effects are present, consistent with original René Lalique production of the period, including an air bubble below the rim, a tiny burst air bubble on the rim, and mould lines to the interior. These are original production characteristics rather than damage. The underside shows light shelf wear consistent with age and careful handling. No chips, cracks or restoration.
