René Lalique Chamois Vase No.1075 Opalescent Celadon Glass c1931 Signed
René Lalique Chamois Vase No. 1075 is one of the designer's finest animal-themed Art Deco creations, first introduced on 27 July 1931. Inspired by the agile chamois of the European Alps, the vase features beautifully modelled mountain goats leaping amongst stylised rocky peaks, a design that perfectly combines Lalique's fascination with nature and the bold geometric forms of the Art Deco movement.
Produced using Lalique's renowned blown-moulded glass technique, this example is finished in highly desirable opalescent celadon glass with a delicate white patina that accentuates the sculptural relief. The glass displays subtle green tones that transition to an opalescent blue-white glow depending on the light, creating the luminous effect for which René Lalique's glass is celebrated.
The Chamois model measures 12.5 cm high and first appeared in the 1932 René Lalique catalogue. It remained in production until being removed from the catalogue in 1937 and was not reintroduced after 1947, making original examples increasingly difficult to source. Lalique also produced the model in satin clear glass, although the opalescent celadon version is among the most sought after by collectors.
This vase retains crisp moulded detail throughout, with the raised chamois standing proudly against sharply faceted mountain forms. The underside is signed R. Lalique France, confirming its authenticity.
An outstanding example of René Lalique's artistic vision, this vase represents a wonderful opportunity for collectors of Art Deco glass, French decorative arts, or important René Lalique works.
Condition
Presented in very good antique condition. The opalescent celadon glass has an attractive even white patina and retains excellent mould definition. The vase is signed R. Lalique France to the underside. Please inspect the photographs carefully as they form part of the condition report.
