Designed on 7 August 1924, the Formose vase is one of René Lalique's most celebrated aquatic creations. The Formose vase first appeared in René Lalique's 1928 and 1932 catalogues before being discontinued in 1937. Unlike many Lalique designs, it was never reintroduced after 1947, making original pre war examples especially desirable among collectors.
The fish motif embodies Lalique's fascination with the natural world and his mastery of sculptural glass, with every viewing angle revealing new movement and detail. Today, the Formose remains one of the most recognisable and admired designs from the golden age of French Art Deco glass.
