Description

RENÉ LALIQUE "SERPENT" VASE No. 896 Designed in 1924, the Serpent Vase is one of René Lalique's most iconic and sculptural Art Deco creations.

The powerful design depicts a coiled serpent wrapped around the vessel, its finely detailed scales culminating in a striking cobra head emerging over the shoulder. First introduced in the 1928 catalogue, the model remained in production throughout the 1930s before being discontinued after 1947, making original examples highly sought after by collectors.

This example is executed in Lalique's beautiful satin frosted grey patinated glass, highlighting every scale and contour while the polished snake's head creates a dramatic contrast. Signed "R. Lalique" to the underside. Condition Excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Very light wear to the underside consistent with age and careful cabinet display.

The serpent vase measures to approx. 25cm tall & 24.5cm wide.

Provenance From an important single owner collection of René Lalique glass. Part of Harrington & Co's "Once in a Lifetime René Lalique Collection of 97 pieces".
