René Lalique "Bacchus" Vase Blue Patinated Glass c1938

An exceptional René Lalique "Bacchus" vase, designed in 1938. One of Lalique's final and most dramatic pre-war creations, the vase depicts the Roman god Bacchus surrounded by richly detailed grape vines and foliage, celebrating the classical themes of wine, abundance and festivity. The deeply sculpted relief is among the finest examples of Lalique's mastery of moulded glass.

This example is executed in frosted glass with an attractive blue-grey patina that beautifully highlights the intricate sculptural details and provides striking contrast against the polished clear rim and base. The vase is acid etched "R. Lalique" to the underside, confirming it as a lifetime production.
