Description

René Lalique Courges Blue Grey Patina Vase, Model No. 900, Designed 1914

An exceptional René Lalique "Courges" vase, Model No. 900, one of the designer's most iconic early creations, first introduced in 1914. Inspired by nature, the vase is richly decorated in high relief with hanging gourds, curling vines and broad leaves, demonstrating René Lalique's extraordinary ability to transform organic forms into sculptural works of glass. The rounded body, deeply moulded decoration and softly frosted finish combine to create a striking interplay of light and shadow. This outstanding example measures 19.5 cm high and is finished in an attractive blue grey patina. The moulding is exceptionally crisp throughout, retaining remarkable depth and definition. Numerous tiny internal seed bubbles and a small internal manufacturing air bubble remain visible, authentic characteristics of early moulded glass production.

The underside bears an unusual double moulded Lalique factory molded mark, adding further collector appeal.
