A superb example of René Lalique's celebrated Danaides vase, one of the defining masterpieces of the French Art Deco movement. First introduced in 1926, the design draws inspiration from Greek mythology, depicting the fifty daughters of King Danaus eternally pouring water from amphorae, their flowing streams transformed into elegant vertical ribs that create both movement and architectural form.
Executed in beautifully cased blue opalescent glass, the vase displays exceptional moulding quality, with sharply defined facial features, flowing hair and deeply sculpted relief. The frosted figures contrast beautifully against polished highlights, creating the luminous effect for which René Lalique's pre war glass is renowned.
This example presents in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. The crisp detail and attractive blue opalescent colouring make it an outstanding collector's example of one of Lalique's most recognisable designs.
