Authentic René Lalique Archers Cased Ruby Red Glass Vase No. 893 Circa 1921
An outstanding and exceptionally rare original René Lalique "Archers" vase, introduced in 1921 and regarded as one of the master's most important Art Deco creations. This museum quality example is executed in magnificent ruby cased glass, one of the rarest and most visually dramatic colourways produced for this iconic design.
The vase features a continuous frieze of nude archers drawing their bows towards soaring birds in flight, sculpted in remarkable high relief. The dynamic composition perfectly captures René Lalique's mastery of movement, mythology and nature, qualities that established him as one of the foremost glass artists of the twentieth century.
The deep ruby outer casing contrasts beautifully with the warm amber interior, creating an extraordinary richness of colour that transforms when illuminated. Every feather, figure and flowing contour remains sharply moulded beneath the original satin finish, while the polished neck beautifully reveals the vibrant transparency of the cased glass.
This early example is engraved "R. Lalique", "France" and "No. 893" to the underside, consistent with production from the early 1920s.
Condition is excellent. There are no chips, cracks or restoration. The satin finish remains beautifully preserved, the engraved signature is crisp and the base displays only honest age related wear consistent with careful ownership. The vase also exhibits a small number of original manufacturing seed bubbles, with several naturally opening to the surface. These are characteristic of early hand blown René Lalique cased glass and are recognised as authentic production features rather than damage.
The Archers vase is one of René Lalique's most celebrated designs and examples in ruby cased glass are seldom encountered. With its exceptional colour, outstanding condition and early engraved signature, this example represents one of the finest opportunities available to collectors of important Art Deco glass.
