René Lalique Black Lezards et Bleuet Vase No. 879 Designed 1913 Glass 33.7cm

An exceptional and highly sought after René Lalique "Lézards et Bleuets" vase, model 879, originally designed in 1913. Executed in striking black glass, this is one of the rarest and most desirable colour variations of one of Lalique's most iconic early Art Nouveau designs.

The vase features intertwined lizards flowing amongst sprays of cornflowers (bleuets), all executed in beautifully moulded high relief. The sculptural decoration wraps seamlessly around the body, showcasing René Lalique's unrivalled ability to combine naturalistic motifs with elegant form.

This example is engraved to the underside R. Lalique France, confirming pre war production. Measuring approximately 33.7 cm in height, it retains its correct documented dimensions and displays superb moulding quality throughout.

The upper rim exhibits the characteristic hand finished asymmetry occasionally encountered on early René Lalique production, reflecting the individual finishing techniques employed during manufacture. The internal polished bevel is consistent with this early craftsmanship and the vase retains its full original height.

Condition is excellent for its age, with no chips, cracks or repairs noted. There is honest shelf wear to the underside consistent with over a century of careful handling and display.

Black glass examples of the Lézards et Bleuets vase are seldom offered for sale and are regarded among the finest and most desirable works produced by René Lalique before the Second World War. Their rarity, artistic importance and enduring appeal make them highly prized by collectors, museums and serious Art Deco enthusiasts worldwide.
